About Zuzul Coastal Cuisine
Zuzul Coastal Cuisine, located at 1370 E. 70th Street in Shreveport’s Fern Marketplace, is the second restaurant from Gabriel and Brooke Balderas. The husband-and-wife duo also own and operate El Cabo Verde, a popular Mexican eatery located at 1023 Provenance Place Boulevard in Shreveport. Zuzul Coastal Cuisine focuses on fresh, sustainable dishes inspired by coastal Latin America, as well as classic favorites.
Chef Gabriel Balderas
Chef Gabriel Balderas was born and raised in Oaxaca, Mexico. Among other accomplishments, Balderas has been named a “Chef to Watch” by Louisiana Cookin’, has competed as a finalist in Louisiana Food Prize’s Battle of the Golden Fork, and serves as a member of the Slow Food Chefs’ Alliance.
Seasonal Cocktails, Curated Wine & Beer Selections
The bar program at Zuzul Coastal Cuisine is the product of the same level of care and attention that goes into our food. None of our cocktails use pre-made mixes or artificial ingredients. Drink offerings change frequently, inspired by our ever-changing menu and seasonal flavors. We produce our own cocktail bases, syrups, and more, and are proud to serve a well-curated beer and wine list.
Artisan-Inspired Atmosphere
The hand-painted blue ceramic tiles displayed throughout Zuzul Coastal Cuisine are called Talavera tile. Tile bearing this name may only be manufactured and hand-painted by traditionally trained artisans in Puebla, Mexico. Other unique features of the restaurant include a large patio, display kitchen and outdoor grill area.
